Your Missoula County Property Tax Bill Is in the Mail: The Dates That Matter

The county has mailed 2026 tax bills. The first half has to be postmarked by Monday, Nov. 30, and there's a no-fee way to pay online.

If you own property in Missoula County, your 2026 tax bill is on its way or already on the counter.

The county says it has mailed 2026 tax bills to all property owners, and that bills can be viewed online now, according to a notice from the Clerk and Treasurer’s Office posted Oct. 26.

Here are the dates, the payment options and the one fee worth avoiding.

The deadline: Monday, Nov. 30

For owners who don't pay through a mortgage, the first-half payment has to be postmarked by Monday, Nov. 30.

The second half is due Tuesday, June 1, 2027. Both halves are on the one invoice the county mails in the fall; no separate second-half bill is sent.

One piece of specific advice from the county: if you're mailing a payment between Nov. 26 and 30, take the envelope to the post office and ask an employee to postmark it at the counter. A postmark is what counts, and drop-box collection times at the end of a holiday week are not a safe bet.

Four ways to pay

  • Online at missoulataxes.us by credit card, debit card or eCheck.
  • In person at the Clerk and Treasurer's Office, first floor of the Missoula County Courthouse Annex, 200 W. Broadway.
  • Drop box: the blue box in the west parking lot off Woody Street.
  • By mail to the Clerk and Treasurer's Office, 200 W. Broadway St., Missoula, MT 59802.

The fee note: credit and debit card payments carry service fees. eCheck has no fee, and the county recommends it.

How to see your bill (and where the money goes)

Go to missoulataxes.us, choose “pay my taxes online,” then search by last name, property address, geo code or taxpayer ID.

Two things there are worth a minute even if you've already paid:

  • Pie charts that break your bill down by taxing jurisdiction — schools, city, county and the rest.
  • “Tax Comparison,” which puts this year's bill next to prior years.

If you'd rather start from a map, missoulaproperty.us lets you pick a parcel and open its “Taxes” tab.

If you miss the date

Delinquent taxes incur a 2% penalty and interest at a 10% annualized rate, according to the county's tax questions page. Payment has to be received or postmarked by the due date to avoid that.

Bill wrong? Know who to call

There are two different offices behind the paper, and calling the wrong one costs you a day:

  • How much you owe, payments, receipts: Clerk and Treasurer, 406-258-4847; Financial Services, 406-258-4918.
  • What your property is valued at: the Montana Department of Revenue. The county's own guidance is to take assessment and valuation questions to the DOR's Missoula office, not the Treasurer.

The county's notice doesn't address whether mortgage-escrow holders receive a copy of the bill, so if your taxes are escrowed and you want confirmation it's been paid, the online lookup is the fastest check.
