Missoula County Grants $1.32 Million to Local Nonprofits: Who Gets Funded |
From rural food pantries to youth mentoring, here are the 26 grants Missoula County is funding this year and where the money comes from. |

Missoula County is distributing $1.32 million in county-funded grants to local organizations this fiscal year.
The money comes through two programs, according to the county’s Oct. 13 announcement. County commissioners make the funding decisions.
Community Assistance Fund: $895,000
The Community Assistance Fund is giving $895,000 to 16 organizations in fiscal year 2027:
“Funding from the Community Assistance Fund sustains our rural pantries in Lolo, Bonner and Clinton,” said Amy Allison, executive director of the Missoula Food Bank & Community Center, in the county’s announcement.
Substance Abuse Prevention Mill Levy: $423,217
The Substance Abuse Prevention Mill Levy, which voters approved in 2008, is funding 10 programs with $423,217:
A few organizations, including Missoula Public Health, Mountain Home Montana and the YWCA, appear on both lists.
How the programs work
The Community Assistance Fund pays for basic needs for at-risk residents: food, shelter, medical care and emergency transportation.
The prevention levy supports underage substance abuse prevention: a coordinating coalition, community education, supervised after-school activities and early intervention for youth and families.
Both are open to 501(c)(3) nonprofits and government agencies, with no matching funds required. Applications typically open in April and close in early May, and a citizen review committee scores them, according to the county’s program pages.

The county’s announcement doesn’t break out individual award amounts. The county keeps a grants dashboard for anyone who wants to dig into its funding.
Together, the two programs add up to 26 grants that touch food security, recovery, housing, aging services, youth programs and public health across the county, from Seeley Lake to Lolo.
