Montana beat Eastern Washington 42–33 in Cheney on Saturday, and one receiver is most of the reason why.

Brooks Davis caught nine passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns — a career high, the fifth-most receiving yards in a single game in Montana history, the most by any Big Sky receiver this season and the third-most in the FCS. Two of the three scores, from 75 and 61 yards, were catches at the line of scrimmage that he turned into the length of the field. The third was a 51-yard Hail Mary on the last play of the first half.

On Monday he swept the week: Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week and Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

The season number is the remarkable one

Davis went past 1,000 receiving yards on Saturday and now sits at 1,145 yards and 12 touchdowns — the most receiving yards of anyone in Division I football, FBS included. Montana’s sports information office notes he is one of only four receivers across the division past 1,000 yards this season, alongside Oregon State’s Jesse Legree, Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith and Miami’s Malachi Toney.

He has now gone over 200 yards twice this year and over 100 in seven of his last eight games, with three touchdowns in a game three times — including each of the last two.

Where the season stands

The win puts Montana at 6–3 overall and 4–2 in the Big Sky, on a one-game winning streak, 4–1 at home. Three games remain:

  • Saturday Nov. 7 — Portland State, Washington-Grizzly Stadium, 1 p.m., Native American Heritage Game
  • Saturday Nov. 14 — Idaho State, Washington-Grizzly Stadium, 8:30 p.m., Senior Day
  • Saturday Nov. 21 — at Montana State, Bozeman, noon, 125th Brawl of the Wild

Saturday’s game is on Scripps Sports with the Grizzly Sports Radio Network on the radio call.

Last week: the bye week and the trip to Cheney. And in the background of the season, what the UM athletics budget analysis actually claims.
